The Old Fashioned glass, lowball glass, or rocks glass is a short tumbler used for serving an alcoholic beverage, such as whisky, with ice cubes (“on the rocks”). It is also normally used to serve certain cocktails, such as the Old Fashioned, from which it receives its name. Old fashioned tumblers are the ideal glasses for Canadian and American whiskies, especially when you're serving them with ice. North American whiskies have a different taste profile from scotch whiskies but if you're enjoying a premium whiskey, you should definitely try it in a scotch nosing/ tasting glass. Old fashioned/ Tumblers are not shaped to gather the bouquet of any beverage that is poured into them so they aren't the best choice when you're trying to differentiate between subtle flavors and scents.
